In Reguengos de Monsaraz, Fabricaal continues the tradition of the last handwoven Alentejo blankets. Founded in 1930, it is today the last place in Portugal where this tradition remains alive. Using Portuguese merino wool and century-old looms, the factory continues to reinvent tradition through a contemporary approach to textiles, resulting in creations sought after by designers, architects and hotels around the world.

The legacy of Alentejo weaving
At Fabricaal, visitors discover the last factory in Portugal where traditional Alentejo blankets are still woven by hand on 11 century-old semi-manual looms. Set inside a former 19th-century olive oil mill transformed into a workshop, the space offers a rare opportunity to meet artisans preserving techniques and knowledge that are gradually disappearing. Each piece reflects a strong connection between raw material, craftsmanship and regional heritage.
